THOMPSON, Jane Elizabeth - 26, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2003, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. The daughter of Donna and Ian Thompson, Jane was the proprietor of Sweet Jane's on Doyle Street in Halifax. Jane attended Halifax schools, graduating from Armbrae Academy. Jane was a swimmer with Halifax Trojans and represented Nova Scotia in the 1993 Canada Games in Kamloops, B.C. She was awarded a swimming scholarship by Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island from where she graduated in 1999. While at Providence College, Jane received the Paul Connolly Award and was a member of the 1998-99 Academic All-Star Team for the Big East Conference. In June of 1999, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Jane received the National Award of Achievement from the NCAA's National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletes. In addition to operating Sweet Jane's, Jane was a dancer with Just Dancin' and was taking circus lessons. Jane was predeceased by her brother, Rob in 1998 and by her cousin, William Dennis in 2002. In addition to her parents, Jane is survived by her maternal grandmother, Bertha Newman, and by aunts, uncles and cousins. She will be greatly missed by her dog, Maggie. Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. today in Cambridge Military Library, 1575 Queen St. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, July 18, in All Saints Cathedral. No flowers by request.
