Gregory Albert Harnish

Halifax Chronicle Herald 09/02/1998

HARNISH, Gregory Albert - 43, Toronto, passed on into the next realm of being on August 24, 1998. He was at home in Toronto at the time. He was born in Digby on June 28, 1955. He was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when he was two years of age and was taken in by his grandparents, Vira and Trueman Wentzell. They raised and cared for him well until he left home for Ontario at the age of 17. Living with CF was difficult enough, but in his 30s, he also developed diabetes. In 1993, he underwent a double lung transplant, for which he was eternally grateful. Without the generous organ donation, Greg would have died in 1993. Every day of his life was a struggle to survive and he had a very strong will to survive, but the ravages of CF and diabetes finally stopped his heart. Those close to him knew he had a heart of gold! He enjoyed spending time with his companions, Princess and Zena. Greg is survived by his soul mate, Maria Carbone; his brother and sisters, Rickey, Christine, Diana, Lisa and Lynn; his nieces and nephews, Kristen, Nicole, Courtney, Alexandra, Brittany, Natalie, Daniel, Kyle and Corey. He has been greeted in heaven by mother and father, Ruth and Albert; his brothers, Gary and David; grandparents, Vira and Trueman Wentzell, Mildred and Wallace Harnish. Donations to Cystic Fibrosis, the Canadian Diabetes Association and support of the Multi-Organ Transplant Program are greatly appreciated by the family. Service will be in All Saints Church, Rossway, Digby Co., today, September 2, at 2 p.m.
