COOK, Barry Gene - 49, Winnipeg, Man., died November 10, 1996, in Manitoba Health Sciences Centre. Born May 22, 1947, in Gays River, Colchester Co., he was a son of Jean Leslie (Prest) Cook and the late Walter Dean Cook. Born with Cystic Fibrosis, he was the oldest surviving person with the disease in the Canadian Prairies. He worked full-time for the Carnation Processing Plant, Carberry, Man., until deteriorating health forced his early retirement in the early 1990s. He was devoted to his faith, first in the Shubenacadie congregation and then in his adopted home of Carberry. Surviving are his wife, Shawn; son, Aladdin; sisters, Charmaine Cook, Shubenacadie; Geraldine Cook, Elderbank. He was predeceased by brothers, Dean Burton in infancy; fraternal twin, Sterling; maternal and paternal grandparents. Funeral service was held November 14, 1996, in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Carberry, Man. Burial was in Carberry Plains Cemetery. Memorial service 2 p.m. December 7, in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Shubenacadie, Elder Dale Campbell officiating.
