Brent Justin Brannen

Halifax Chronicle Herald 06/04/2013

BRANNEN Brent Justin, 20, Overton, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Friday, May 31, 2013, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. He was the only son of Donna and Fraser Brannen, of Overton, Yarmouth Co. Brent was a student at Dalhousie University and he enjoyed the simple things of life, being with family and friends, long walks with his dog Oliver, and volunteering at Tidal View Manor and later Meadows Nursing Home. Along with his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Mildred Francis, Yarmouth; paternal grandmother, Martha Brannen, also of Yarmouth; aunts, Joanne (Greg) Newell; Charlene Brannen, Halifax; Marsha Posey (Jimmy), Kemptville; special aunts, Linda Rhuland, Sylvia Grant and Mary Keats; uncles, Charles Brannen, Australia; and Harold Amos Brannen (Heather) of Overton; and cousin, Sydney Newell, who he loved dearly. He was predeceased by maternal grandfather, Sidney Francis and paternal grandfather, Amos Brannen Jr. 'Buddy'. He was a treasure to be around and was always interested in knowing how your day was going. Living with his condition was relentless but he had so much courage and he displayed great fortitude in his daily regime to survive. The family would like to express thanks for the tremendous support that he received from the various hospitals Brent spent time in over his young years while he was battling Cystic Fibrosis: IWK Health Centre (notably Paula), the Halifax Infirmary, QEII (notably Shawna) and Yarmouth Regional Hospital and all the nurses he met along the way and most recently, he was so touched by Janelle. A special thank you to Dr. Couture and Dr. Cindy Boudreau who he thought were the kindest doctors ever. He had a special connection to Yarmouth Regional where he felt loved. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. A joint funeral service will be held in Brent’s honour with that of his grandfather, Sidney Francis, who just recently passed as well on May 12. Visitation will be on June 7 from 6-9 p.m. in Beacon United Church, Yarmouth with the funeral service on Saturday, June 8, from Beacon United Church at 2 p.m. Rev. Curtis MacDonald will be officiating. Family flowers only.
